About Me

Ann and MontyI have always been passionate about wildlife and nature and from a young age had the desire to travel and explore the world’s wild places.

Having completed a Zoology degree at Nottingham University I travelled to Nepal in 1985 where I spent 3 months trekking in the Annapurna and Everest regions and exploring the jungles of Chitwan National Park. This was the start of a great adventure which changed the course of my life. There is something magical about Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world. The people are the friendliest and the scenery the most amazing. Before I had left the country I wanted to return and so was born the idea of an adventure travel company – Classic Nepal!

As time progressed the company expanded and changed names to Classic Journeys. I had great fun leading treks and exploring new destinations, all the time travelling with a camera. Over the years I have completed many treks in Nepal as well as travels and treks in India, Tibet, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Tanzania, Kenya, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands and Peru. Many of my early trekking and travel adventures produced thousands of Kodachrome and Fuji Velvia slides. These are all patiently awaiting my attention and one day I will tackle the mammoth task of sorting and scanning the best images – one day!

I have had the wonderful opportunity to organise a series of photographic tours to some amazing and exciting destinations, travelling with my digital cameras to locations in the United Kingdom and further afield.

My first “real” camera was a Pentax, followed by several Olympus models including the iconic Olympus Trip. At some point I moved over to Canon cameras, working my way through the EOS range. With the dawn of digital my photography has moved forward at a considerable pace. I now use the top of the range Canon EOS 1Dx and 1D Mark 1V cameras.
I am grateful to many people who have helped and advised me with my photography, a special thank you to photographers Simon Watkinson,  Mark Sisson, and Danny Green.
My passion for photography and travel continues to grow with exciting projects and destinations planned.

I live in Derbyshire with my partner and Monty our golden labrador.
