I have been out and about with my camera over the last few months, no where exotic but have been discovering some local wildlife and flora. We sometimes forget that there are some great images waiting to be taken near to home. Here are a few images to show what I have been doing. In May I found myself visiting local woodland, first for the bluebells and then for cuckoopint and the aromatic ramsons (wild garlic).
In early June I travelled down to Buckinghamshire for an afternoon and evening in Tom Way’s fox hide. This was a great experience (but a long, tiring drive). Tom has put in several years work and the wild foxes come to within several metres of the hide. On my visit I got to photograph the male fox although there were two females with cubs in the area. As a bonus a brave rabbit made a brief appearance.
On a recent Sunday walk in the Derbyshire Dales I found an amazing field of early purple orchids. I returned the following morning with my camera gear and although most flowers were past their best I did find this beautiful plant.
Getting up to date, this last week I have been visiting a local canal where Coots and Little Grebes are busy feeding their hungry chicks and common spotted orchids are putting on a colourful show.
