Canon 1DX











For many years I have used Canon EOS SLR cameras. My first digital SLR was the Canon EOS 10D followed by the 20D, 5D, 1D Mark 111 and the Canon EOS 1D Mark 1V. My current camera is the wonderful Canon EOS 1Dx.

Travelling to remote and sometimes rugged destinations and experiencng extremes of climate I need to trust my equipment and Canon has always been reliable.

Camera Bag

Gura Gear Kiboko 30L












For several years now my bag of choice has been the Gura Gear Kiboko 30L (now updated to the Bataflae 32L). This bag was designed by photographer Andy Biggs and is the best bag I have ever used (and I have worked my way through many!)

The design has been well thought out, uses lightweight but extremely strong materials and offers the optimum combination of weight, protection and durability.

The bag measures 8.5x14x20 inches, which neans the Kiboko can be carried legally on board just about any airline in the world.

Having bought my bag when it was first released (probably 2009) it is still in excellent condition and when the time comes to replace it, I will have no hesitation in purchasing another camera bag from Gura Gear.



Gitzo G1348 Tripod

Tripods have been an obsession of mine over the years but I now only have six! I seem to have aquired quite a collection although I only really use two. Which one I use depends on the subject and equipment. For wildlife where I need the heavy DSLR system and almost always the Canon 500mm F4 lens, I use the solid Gitzo GT3532S tripod with the Wimberley head. For landscapes and the smaller camera set up I use the Manfrotto 055MF4 tripod with either a Kirk Ball Head or the Gitzo GH1780 Centre Ball Head.


B+W Polarizing Filter: In bright conditions, using a polarizing filter will help recover some of the details that would be lost in the highlights.

B+W Neutral Density Filter: In bright conditions a neutral density filter allows me to shoot wide open or to shoot at slow shutter speeds when trying to produce motion blur, such as running water.

B+W UV Filter: To protect my lens from dust, sand and water spray.

Lee 100mm Filter System: For landscape work the Lee filters are great. I have the neutral density hard graduated set which consists of 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 Neutral Density Graduated Hard Resin Filters. A Graduated Neutral Density Filter allows you to expose correctly for the sky as well as the land which saves you time trying to save over exposed skies in Photoshop or Lightroom.
