Walrus (Odobenus rosmarus), Svalbard - Norway

Canon EOS 1D-X, EF70mm-300mm f4-5-6L IS USM Lens, 1/1000 sec, f11 ISO 800

At the beginning of the season in Svalbard there can be dense sea ice which can affect planned itineraries. It is important to be flexible and take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves. On this day we had to change our strategy and go south again and rather spend more time in front of the glaciers instead of trying to get into the fjords. In the late evening we stopped to photograph a colony of Walruses, spending several hours enjoying the peaceful scene. The evening light was really beautiful and we experienced an amazing midnight sun.
